1000 Gifts (Week 8) #1000gifts #joydare

If you missed my first post, I’m taking the Joy Dare and writing a list of 1000 Gifts for 2013.  You can read more about it here. And here are my gifts for this past week…

February 17, 2013

143.  Taco Soup.  Easy, delicious, and best on day two!

 144.  A beautiful sunny day!

145.  Flowers (aka weeds) picked for me by Noah.  Beautiful!

February 18, 2013

146.  Fresh lemons & strawberries.

147.  A long talk with my Mama.

148.  Being able to stay in my PJ’s all day.

February 19, 2013

149.  A new book from my best friend.  I can’t wait to get busy reading it!

150.  An old beat-up computer… for when mine is busted – again!

151.  A beautiful sunshiny day.

February 20, 2013

152.  A new cupcake necklace from Sarah & Joshua.  It was a Valentine’s gift that came a few days late, but I love it!!  (I tried to take a picture of myself wearing it… #fail… so you’re getting the pic from Amazon)

153.  An email from my husband first thing this morning… it started with “I Love You”.  A perfect start to my day!

154.  Some quiet time tonight – thanks to a friend who picked up my kids and took them to church so I could catch my breath!

February 21 – February 22, 2013

I missed two days because I was overwhelmed and felt like I was drowning with computer problems, cake orders, a messy, messy house and very little sleep.    So, I’m writing these on 2/23/13 as well…

155.  The rush of rain – even though we don’t need the water, I love the sound.

156.  The wisdom of my Daddy, husband, and brother.

157.  A new utility cart.

158.  PicMonkey.com – makes my photo editing so much fun and easy!!

159.  My creative kids.  At the last possible minute, they told me they needed a mask for camp this weekend – I told them “make it, or go without”… they made a Lego Head!  ha!!  (picture taken with my son’s iPod)

160.  The sweetness of my baby girl.  She cleaned up the bar for me after cake decorating – no small job!

February 23, 2013

161.  An unexpected phone call from a cousin I have talked to in ages!

162.  My sister and sister-in-law… who rescued me today and helped with this:

163.   This cake – delivered.  In one piece.   It was 6 tiers, ~90 pounds, 308 servings.  One reason I was so stressed this week!!  Maybe one day I’ll get caught up and tell you more about it!

And I’m  off to put chili on the stove, kick my feet up and relax!

What have you been thankful for today, or this week or this month?  What are your gifts?

  1. Wow!!! What a cake. I would have been beyond stressed with that cake in my life. lol It is so lovely. The ruffles are so nice…I feel like I’m floating along on them…or something. ha.

    • Thank you so much Susan! I was so stressed over this one that I was dreaming about dropping it, the bride hating it, it falling apart, etc. I didn’t stop shaking until more than an hour after getting it delivered! It was a doozy, but so worth it in the end to have a happy bride on her best day! :)

      • Did you take it stacked or assemble it there? The time I did the 5 tier, I had to get my husband to carry the bottom 2 tiers stacked, and then I put the other 3 on when I got there. He is quite a strong man and the bottom 2 tiers were a lot for him to carry!

Oh, and curious…how do you know it’s 90 lbs…did you put it on a scale?

        • Susan – I had to drive it 40+ miles fully assembled. Because the ruffles/petals overlapped each other sort of fading one tier to the next (started at the top and worked down) I had to do all the work before delivering. Otherwise, I’d have had to take all my supplies and decorate on site and I did NOT want the stress of that! I actually put the cake drum on my rolling cart, put the first tier on then put a huge dowel in it and lowered all the cakes down onto it. OH, and I weighed the bottom two tiers assembled, then weighed each tier before putting it on, THEN weighed all the fondant I had set out to make the petals before putting it on. I used almost the entire 15 pounds (maybe 1/3 of one ball left) to do the petals. I rolled it to my front door and me, my sister, and my SIL moved it about 4 feet to the back of my Excursion. Then we drove it there (my sis drove and I sat in the back holding it) and moved it another 4-5 feet to a cart and rolled it in, then lifted it onto the table/cake stand. It was WORK – but praise the Lord (He was with us) – it all worked out!!

  2. wow 90 pounds cake! im so stressfull to deliver one of 6 pound I couldnt imagine how I should be if I have to delivered that cake.. I always try to get rid of big cakes because deliver them are so dang stresfull for me and I just cant handle it, I admire you!
