When I was asked to do this Monkey Baby Shower cake, it was a short notice order. If my memory serves me (this was way back in August), mostly the customer wanted lots of chocolate… dark chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and a simple design with a monkey.
If I remember correctly, she had recently had a taste of one of my Snicker’s cakes and that’s what prompted her to call me (but no Snickers on this cake!). I love my customers and how they share the word about Rose Bakes! Their word-of-mouth is why I have a business at all!
Anywho… as requested, this was 2 layers of 8″ round dark chocolate cake. It was filled and covered with lots of chocolate buttercream.
I used marshmallow fondant (tinted a light shade of Sky Blue) for the border and blanket. I used a tutorial from MyCakeSchool.com to make the monkey topper!
For the border, I used an FMM Frill Cutter to get that pretty design. I used an impression mat for the texture on the blanket!
And I think that’s it!

So cute, and great job on the smooth buttercream! I always love this color combo.
Thank you Megan!
