For Wesson’s 2nd birthday, the order was for a Dinosaur Birthday Cake & Cupcakes!
Some of you may remember when I did Wesson’s 1st birthday party… the theme that year was Airplanes: an airplane cake, smash cake and cookies!
For this year’s party, I started with a dinosaur cake based on the the “Dippy Dinosaur” cake in 50 Easy Party Cakes by Debbie Brown (love her books!).
I used her instructions almost exactly and if you want a great resource for doing 3-D shaped cakes – 50 Easy Party Cakes is a good one!
Then Amy, Wesson’s mom, asked for four dozen cupcakes to go with the cake. She wanted a variety, so here’s what I came up with…
I did four different dinosaurs along with dinosaur bones, footprints and eggs!
I got these ideas mostly from a fondant dinosaurs round up over at A Baked Creation and I specifically used her tutorial to make the T-Rex toppers.
I knew Amy planned to use a cupcake stand at Wesson’s party, so I took a couple of pictures with my cupcake stand from The Smart Baker.
But that’s not my favorite picture…
…it’s this one of Wesson with his parents and the cake & cupcakes… isn’t he super cute? Actually, the whole family is adorable!
