Fall Flowers Wedding Cake

As I was preparing a round-up of all of my Fall cakes, cupcakes and recipes (going up next week!), I stumbled onto this Fall Flowers Wedding Cake and realized I had never shared here.

I wish I could find the original photo the bride sent me and maybe tell you the source of this Fall Flowers Wedding Cake design, but it’s been almost a year ago and I have no idea where it was!   So – if you know who originated this design, please let me know and I’ll share!!

In the meantime, I was pretty nervous about doing this cake – sugar flowers are not something I do often, but these weren’t necessarily “true-to-life” flowers… just pretty fall colors.

I used maroon, golden yellow and orange gel colors for the flowers.  For the border, I used the FMM Ribbon cutter and the Silicone Pearls border.

I had actually done this exact Fall Flowers Wedding cake once before (you can scroll through the pics here) and this second bride wanted an identical cake topper.  It took some creativity and lots of searching – but I finally found the discontinued Wilton Hearts n’ Roses topper on eBay and was able to order it for her!

The cake itself was white almond sour cream cake with vanilla buttercream filling and frosting.  It was covered with marshmallow fondant and the flowers were made with gum paste.
