Happy Saturday!! With my little boy having such a rough couple of weeks (the broken arm and the surgery yesterday), I was quite relieved to be completely finished with all of my cake orders last night and have them all delivered by 9:15 this morning! When I got back home after delivering, I found myself with a mostly work-free Saturday…woohoo!
I say “mostly” work-free because I still had to clean up from all of my cake work last night! Ugh… that’s my least favorite thing about this business I’m in!
Anywho – when I went into the kitchen to start cleaning this morning, I decided I’d kill two birds with one stone and also watch a Craftsy class while I cleaned! I have about ten classes purchased that I haven’t watched yet (oops) and it was sort of hard to decide which to turn on :-/
After reading through a few descriptions, I decided to take the Mini-Cakes, Many Occasions Craftsy Class. I loved the last Rachael Teufel class I took (Cake Design Made Simple: The Wedding Dress… I used it to help me with this wedding dress cake!) and I’ve always been fascinated with tiny cakes, so I figured this one would be perfect for me!
Rachael is a really great teacher! Although her cakes looks completely flawless, she really made me feel like I didn’t have to be a perfectionist to make beautiful cakes. She’s very kind and funny… and makes me feel like I’m a friend sitting in her kitchen watching her work. I love it!
I was right! In fact, I’m kicking myself for not taking Mini-Cakes, Many Occasions (at least a couple of days) sooner. You see, what I didn’t realize is that in the first two lessons, she teaches all about making petit fours and I just
struggled through finished another order of petit fours last night!
If I had watched the class when I first bought it, I could’ve used some of the tips from this class and it would’ve really saved me some heartache yesterday!!
I’m not saying my petit fours yesterday were bad (in fact they tasted amazing thanks to a new recipe from my friend Angela), but they would’ve been prettier if I had used some of Rachael’s techniques to finish them!
Oh well… I’m always a day late and a dollar short. Just kidding… but I really do wish I had watched it sooner!
Anywho, after the lessons on petit fours, the next few lessons go over (in great detail) how to make other mini cakes – including these fantastic mini wedding cakes!
She teaches so many techniques to cover and decorate these sweet little cakes… you’ll learn about wrapping with modeling chocolate, using chocolate transfer sheets, covering with fondant, adding bows and medallions, using impression mats (and other household things to make impressions) and so.much.more.
And then… as if all of that weren’t enough… this is my favorite thing… you will learn how to make these perfect little mini purse cakes!! Using Rachael’s templates and instructions, the cakes are super easy to make and just so stinkin’ cute!
The best part is, they don’t even involve any carving or cake sculpting! That’s awesome, right?? I’m telling you, you’re going to be blown away by how easy it is to make these sweet little cakes!
I’m just dying to make one (or two or ten) of them right now!! Okay – maybe I’ll rest a little first and let my kid recover from all of his ailments… then I’ll make a bunch of mini cakes!
