Muppets Cake Primary Colors

When I was first asked about doing a Muppets Birthday Cake, I sort of panicked a little bit.   As much as I love doing cake, sculpting is not my strong suit, and sculpting very well-known characters terrifies me.

Because you know if you get Kermit the Frog or Ms. Piggy wrong…. everybody’s gonna know it!

So…. after a few messages with my customer, we decided that Muppets toy figurines would be best.

Muppets Cake Number on Side

I found a great set of them on Amazon and it had all the characters she wanted, so we went with it!

For the colors on the cake, she wanted only primary color plus orange.   I used homemade marshmallow fondant for all the colors except red.  It was Satin Ice Red Vanilla fondant.

For the borders, I used a First Impressions Silicone Pearl mold.

And of course, for the letters I used the Funky Alphabet Tappit cutters.  The shapes on the cake were cut out with small cutters from different miniature cutter sets.

I used my homemade sugar glue to attach the figures to the cake and board and you can check out my tutorial on how to put shapes on wires for cakes!

One tier of this cake was chocolate cake and the other cake was vanilla cake.  Both were filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream, then decorated with fondant.

Hi, Love this cake, and thanks for keep us entertained and motivated to do more “cake” each day. What colours did you use to get such a beautiful blue, and the yellow. Thanks.

I think I mixed Americolor Royal Blue and Electric Blue for the bottom. Then I used Lemon Yellow with a tiny bit of Orange for the top tier! And thank you!! :)

It was a very interesting day you chose to post this cake on your site. You must have known some knowledge the rest of us didn’t. Of course when you post this on the internet last evening you had no way of knowing that Jane Henson, wife of deceased creator of the muppets passed away on April 2, 2013. It was announced in today’s news and when I opened this post this afternoon after hearing the news about her and saw you had made a Muppet’s cake I couldn’t believe the coincidence. It was somehow meant to be one more tribute you didn’t even know you were doing. Jane was also a puppeteer and this is how her and Jim met, working with the puppets. Now her and Jim are together once again making where ever they are laugh and smile. Let’s face it, our world just wouldn’t be the same without Kermit singing It’s Not Easy Being Green and Fonzy Bear with his terrible jokes, and Miss Piggy with her Kerm……eeeee! The world has been a better place because of Jim and Jane Henson. May they both rest in peace.
