Black & White 50th Birthday Cake

I did this Black & White 50th birthday cake a few weeks ago, but I’ve gotten behind on sharing all of my cake pictures.  Anyway, I only have a couple of pics of this one, but it’s a favorite so I had to share.  It was inspired by this cake.

I am a huge fan of a black and white theme, so this cake was lots of fun for me!  The white is vanilla buttercream only (yeah, no fondant… a shocker for me!).   All of the black is Satin Ice black vanilla fondant.

This cake wasn’t nearly as hard to do as I imagined.  I used a diamond cookie cutter from the Wilton set.  I cut the stripes with my FMM Ribbon Cutter and I hand made all the little black balls (with help from my sweet Sarah).  I used white sugar pearls on the points of the diamonds and I bought jewelry wire to make the curly’s coming out of the top!

And that’s all I’ve got for you on this cake!  Any questions?  Hehe.

If you’re a baker, don’t forget to check out those awesome sale on Pillsbury Cake mixes at Amazon.. this cake was made using it in my vanilla cake recipe!
