So, last weekend I had an order for two Fall/Halloween cakes. My customer let me decorate them any way I wanted, so long as they fell into a Fall and/or Halloween look.
For the first one, I made this pumpkin cake (alot more dressed up than my first one)…with ghosts coming out of windows and doors. I was inspired by a couple of cakes on CakeCentral, but I did my own touches to make it a little different.
I was super excited to make them… it’s always fun to be able to stir my creative juices and come up with an original cake (or in this case…sort of original). This week I got to do that five times! I’ve been searching for a few weeks for different ideas and I ended up combining a few different cakes to come up with this final cake (and the others in this post). Here’s what I got for the second cake…
I just love the deep purple/blue color of the background (the picture doesn’t represent the actual color very well)…
The inside was all vanilla cake, and it’s decorated with fondant and gum paste. The moon was standing up on floral wire, and the bats were “glued” on with buttercream (note: Next time find a better glue. About 5 minutes before walking out the door to deliver the cake, they started dropping off the cake. I panicked…and frantically worked to get them all to stick.)
So, that was last weekend. This weekend, I signed up to make 2 cakes for the Fall Festival at our church (for the cake walk). I couldn’t decide what I wanted to make…so I made three (logical, right??).
Two of these three aren’t my typical “decorated” cakes, but I just had to make them anyway! So…here they are…
This is a Chocolate Covered Oreo Cookie Cake from KraftFoods.com. Oh, and just FYI, the recipe makes ways way too much “filling” for an 8 inch cake. I didn’t even put it all in there and look at how thick it is…of course, I couldn’t waste the leftovers. Let’s just say it’s yummy right off the spoon. I mean really…cream cheese, sugar, cool whip, and crushed Oreos. In other words…HEAVEN!
Of course, I added a little “Fall” to the cake with some fondant pumpkins and some orange coloring to the cream filling… just to make it seasonal and increase the “cute” factor!
Next up (below), I made this “Dress Up” cake. My friend Jennifer shared that link with me last week and from the minute I saw them, I knew I had to make one. Again, I chose a “Fall” look…Kit Kats, Reeses Pieces, and a nice cream-colored ribbon!
Mine didn’t turn out as “square” as I wanted (thanks to my small-town grocery store and their half-melted Kit Kats), but my kids thought it was awesome!!
Lastly, I made this official “Fall Cake”. My husband and kids used up some leftover marshmallow fondant to make these multi-colored leaves a few days ago, so of course, I had to make a cake to put them on!!
And that’s that. Ten days… five Fall/Halloween cakes. I always enjoy trying something new and these were a lot of fun! If you missed them before…I also made some Fall and Halloween cupcakes here and here (Quick Take #4) and a plain little pumpkin cake for my kiddos to eat.
Do you have any questions about these cakes? Please feel free to leave a comment and I’ll help if I can!
