Gender reveal cakes get me as excited as the parents!! Well, maybe not that excited but I absolutely love surprises and these cakes are super fun for me!!
So, for this cake I got a sealed envelope (I wish I had taken a pic) with sweet little ultrasound photos! I didn’t even wait 2 minutes for Mom to get out the door before I ripped it open!
She had some great ideas for the cake she wanted… mostly white and simple, but with pink and blue dots around the bottom borders… and then the onesie on the top tier! It was inspired by this cake she found on Pinterest! Speaking of… are you on Pinterest? If so, follow me and I’ll follow you back!
So… instead of the way I usually do these, by coloring the cake (like this one and this one and this one)… on this latest cake I colored the filling! The cake was yellow and the filling and frosting were vanilla buttercream!

Blue vanilla to be exact…. yep – it’s a BOY!! Congratulations!!!
A few details for you cake decorators out there… I used 7″ and 9″ round pans for this cake. It was yellow cake (my vanilla cake recipe except I used yellow cake instead of white). I used round cookie cutters for the circle border and the ateco alphabet cutters for the letters. I used this onesie cookie cutter and outlined it with a black food marker.
If you have other questions about how to make this cake, please leave them in the comments!!
