I’m sure none of you missed this cake – I posted it all over Facebook, but if you did, I wanted to share with you the finished Lavender Magnolia Cake.
It is one of the three that I had for last weekend. I was very pleased with it after it was done, but let me tell you, those magnolias were a learning experience.
When my cousin asked me to make this Lavender Magnolia Cake for a reception (something to do with lawyers?), I was super nervous. And with good reason.
It took me 4 days of broken petals, smeared pearl dust (the yellow), and leaves that were just not quite the right color before I finally finished them.
I ended up with 5 complete flowers…(the last one wouldn’t fit on this cake plate)…
I ended up only using two of them and another two of them broke while trying to put them on the cake, so I’m glad I made the extras.
Just a tiny piece of advice from me. If you ever decide to make sugar flowers for a cake and you’ve never done it before… start early (days or weeks ahead), and make lots and lots of extras, and be prepared to shed a few tears. But know this – when you finally get done…it’s SO worth it!
