Over the weekend I made this Boys Camouflage Birthday Cake. This cake was pretty simple to put together, and it was fun too!
The only not-so-fun part was trying to get he colors 'right'. Not that there is a definite set of colors that must be in camouflage, but I wanted a realistic variety of colors and well... I mixed and mixed until I was satisfied and here are a couple of pictures of the final cake:
I ended up using black, chocolate brown, moss green, leaf green and ivory. Then I added some black, ivory, and brown to some of the greens to get different shades. I think it turned out okay.

I first covered the cake in the lighter shade of green, then used a toothpick to outline the space in the middle I wanted to leave open for letters. Then I used several piping bags with all the different icing colors and randomly piped the camo pattern.
No matter your level of experience, I think almost any cake decorator could pull off a design like this.
I don't have any more cake orders until May 15, so this might be my last one for awhile....but that's okay.
I could use the downtime and I may practice some more before the wedding day!
And that's all I have to tell you about this simple cake. It was good to get in some more practice before the wedding and I was happy to do a cake for some kids that go to our church.
