Bright Pumpkin Ruffles Cake with Candy Apples
Today did not turn out as planned. Â I was moseying along through my day... I had cakes baking and I was editing photos and I almost had this cake ready to post when our power went out.
For 3 hours.
I had to toss half-baked cakes to the chickens and make fondant animals by flashlight/candle. Â Needless to say - I'm now running behind.
But I had a few minutes between putting more cakes in the oven and starting to dip cake pops, so I thought I'd go ahead and try to share these pics.
For the cake, you can find almost all of the details over here on the first Pink Pumpkin with Ombre Ruffles cake. Â Â The only thing I really changed is the colors! Â Â You can also see how I do fondant ruffles on a cake in one of my most recent tutorial (with pics and video).
The only difference from my tutorial and how I did these fondant ruffles is I used the wavy edge of my pastry wheel to cut the top edge of the ruffles and it has a more frilly look.
It was 6" and 8" round cakes (2 layers of cake per tier) and the flavors were chocolate cake on the top and vanilla cake on the bottom.
And then there were the candy apples (see my recipe for candy apples here)... oh how I loved these candy apples. Â I've already shared a pic here, but really..the pictures don't do them justice for how bright and beautiful they were.
She had only ordered 25 apples in three different colors but I realized as I was making the first batch that each color was going to do more like 10-12 apples instead of 8-9.
So... I made extra 🙂  And I splattered them.
I love this pic my hubby took with his cell phone 🙂  They really were that bright!  OH... and after I took that first snapshot up top, I noticed that I was missing an apple...
Somebody had climbed out of his crib and helped himself to an apple for breakfast without me even hearing him come through the house!  I was really happy I had those extras 😉
You can scroll through all of my pumpkin cakes here and I hope you're having a fabulous fall season!! xx
Anywho...that's all I've got for you tonight! Â Do you have any questions about the cake or the candy apples? Â I love to hear from readers, so please leave me a comment! Â
