I had the best time making this Chevron Clothes Line Baby Shower Cake. I made it around a year ago – but it was one of my very first “baby clothes line” cakes and I just adore cakes with little baby clothes hanging on a clothes line.
Why? I don’t know – the’re just the cutest thing ever, dontcha think?
If you couldn’t tell (and I’m sure you could) – this was a buttercream covered cake. And I used modeling chocolate to make the decorations! I think this time last year is when I really started getting into using modeling chocolate (and falling in love with it!).
Sooooo, let me give you a few details! First up, the cake was black and shades of lime green. Love, love, love me some lime green!!
For the chevron pattern, I used a large Chevron Cutter from CheapCookieCutters.com. I like the look of breaking up the pattern, so I cut the strips into segments (which also makes it SO much easier to handle!). For the tiny border, I used a #2 round tip to pipe an itty-bitty bead border.
For the letters on the cake, I used some of my favorite Alphabet Cutters from BrownCookie.com. For the baby clothes, I hand cut them. And it really wasn’t all that bad because there weren’t many of them and I kept the shapes simple.
BUT, if that is daunting for you… there are cookie cutters. In fact, when I did this most recent baby clothes line cake here, I mostly used cutters (except for the tiny pants).
Here are some links for ya:
- R & M International Mini Baby Cookie Cutter Set
- Country Kitchen Mini Baby Cookie Cutter Texture Set
- Baby Clothes Cookie Cutters – 5 Piece Set (FYI: I did not pay $49.95 for those cutters, as they’re currently priced on Amazon)
The cake was a 10″ round cake and the flavor was White Almond Sour Cream. And that’s it!!
