I’m not kidding when I tell you that this Lavender Magnolia Cake was included in maybe the first 10 fondant covered cakes I made… ever!
I had no idea how to make a sugar flower… so I read everything I could find, started a couple of weeks ahead of time, and made a total of six flowers… knowing I only needed two!
Only four were intact by the time I got ready to decorate the cake and I think I broke one of them putting it on!
Just a tiny piece of advice from me. If you ever decide to make sugar flowers for a cake and you’ve never done it before… start early (days or weeks ahead), and make lots and lots of extras, and be prepared to shed a few tears. But know this – when you finally get done…it’s SO worth it!
When I saw this class on Craftsy to help you learn how to make Southern Sugar Flowers, it of course brought back memories of making this cake… and I wanted to tell you that there’s a class for you if you need or want to learn to make these flowers!
There are also lots of other Cake Decorating Classes over at Craftsy, so hop over and see if there’s something you want to learn! Right now, there are even a few cake classes on sale. Here they are:
