Today I have a Dinosaur Cake and Cupcake Tower to share with you! If you're looking for a dinosaur party idea, be sure you also check out this post ----> Dinosaur Birthday Cake and Cupcakes.
So here we go... some details about this dinosaur party!
The cupcakes today are very similar to those first ones I did! They aren't exactly anatomically correct dinosaurs... some may not even be "real" dinosaur species, but they're cute and fun and recognizable (I hope 😉 )!
The cake and cupcakes were all vanilla cake and I topped them with a mix of blue and green vanilla buttercream. I made eggs, bones (using this mold) and dinosaurs for the toppers! Read more details about those here.
Here's one snapshot of half of them all boxed up. I made 4 dozen total - half with decorations, half with just frosting!
For the T-Rex Dinosaur topper, I made him out of rice cereal treats and covered and decorated him with fondant. I cannot for the life of me find the original picture that inspired me, but if you know who did it, please email me or leave a comment so I can give credit!
For the little 6" cake underneath, it was covered in blue homemade marshmallow fondant. I added the black ribbon (see how to add ribbons here) and used my Wilton silicone letter molds to do his name.
I made him in 3 pieces - the body, the head and the tail. I put the body and head together with a dowel and the tail was attached with chocolate (I think - it was back in March). The black and red fondant were both Satin Ice.
I made the little "4" out of fondant and stuck it on a lollipop stick for the t-rex to hold.
Then to display it, I set it all up on my Smart Baker cupcake stand/tower. And that's it!
What's your favorite cupcake topper? Do you have any questions about this cake or the cupcakes? I'd love for you to leave a comment or question!
