Today I want to share with you a Disney Pixar Cars Cake, Smash Cake & Cars Cupcakes!
Let me start by saying that design credit on this cake goes totally to Mossy’s Masterpiece… which I found on Flickr. My customer sent me the picture and asked for the cake and cupcakes.
However, if you look closely at the cupcakes… they don’t match the pictures from Flickr. The cupcakes there had little party favor rings on them. I ordered the rings for these cupcakes, but unfortunately they were lost in the mail and I had to improvise at the last minute.
Since I didn’t have time to actually make any toppers, I darted down to my tiny hometown Dollar General to see what I could find. It was either that or do paper toppers (like these), but I really didn’t have time to make those either.
What did I find? Erasers! Ha! I didn’t want to put erasers directly onto the frosting, so I made fondant discs and told Javen’s mom just to pull the erasers off, throw away the fondant and let the kids enjoy the cupcakes and have the erasers (instead of rings)! It wasn’t a perfect solution but it worked in a pinch!
For the top of the cake, I used brown sugar for the sand in the desert and green homemade marshmallow fondant for the cactus (cut with a mini cactus cookie cutter and stuck on wires like this). I dotted the cactus with a black food marker! The border was done with a large pearl border silicone mold.
The cars were toys … they from Amazon! 🙂
And that’s it… any questions?
