I have to tell you... if your child likes Dora -this is a super easy cake to put together! And so stinkin' cute! (By the way, this is yet another one of those cakes that gave me the purple & blue hands!)
Then I cut about 2" off the end, so that it wasn't quite as long... but a shorter rectangle. To get the angled backpack look, I cut lengthwise at an angle with a long serrated knife. I took off about an inch at one end, then graduated up to the original height of the cake.
Does that make any sense at all? I hope so... I don't have a visual to share with you (sorry!).
Then I covered it in lavender marshmallow fondant and added the details. The eyes were cut out with these Wilton Oval Cookie cutters. The other details were free-handed... but I had it all put together in probably 30 minutes!!
I used Satin Ice Red and Black Vanilla fondant, plus the yellow and white homemade marshmallow fondant, but you might could even pipe the face details with buttercream if you're better at buttercream than me (which pretty much everybody is!).
