Description
Bacon jam is the ultimate blend of smoky, salty, and sweet. With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up this rich, savory spread in about an hour – perfect for burgers, sandwiches, charcuterie boards, or snacking with crackers!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound bacon, cut into approximately 1-inch pieces
- 1 1/2 cups diced yellow onion
- 2 large garlic cloves, minced
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Add the bacon to a large cast iron skillet, place it on the stovetop over medium heat, and cook until the bacon is just slightly crispy – about 15-20 minutes.*
- Pour most of the grease out of the skillet, leaving about 2-3 tablespoons in the skillet with the bacon.
- Add the onion and garlic to the skillet with the bacon and saute over medium heat until the onion is translucent – about 10 minutes.
- Add the brown sugar and apple cider vinegar to the skillet, bring the mixture to a simmer, and continue to cook over medium-medium/low heat until the liquid is reduced and becomes syrupy, stirring occasionally. This should take about 20-25 minutes.
- Serve immediately with crackers or as a burger topping. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about two weeks.
