Description

Easy Crockpot Collard Greens, also known as Slow Cooker Collard Greens have only 6 ingredients.  And in my humble opinion, this is the best way to cook collard greens! The greens are cooked in a hearty broth and loaded with the smoky flavor of bacon. This is a fool-proof classic Southern side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16 ounce) bag washed and cut collard greens
  • 2 small jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely diced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and chopped, grease reserved
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons bacon grease

Instructions

  1. Place the collard greens into a large stockpot. Cover the collard greens with water, salting well.
  2. Bring the collards to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for 10 minutes.
  3. Drain the collards well and transfer to a slow cooker.
  4. Add all remaining ingredients to the slow cooker.  Stir to combine.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Adjust the seasonings as needed prior to serving.
