I always debate on whether or not to post “duplicate” cakes… and I usually decide to go ahead. Soooo…. here’s another Farm Animals Cake, but this time with a green tractor on the front and a duck pond!
You can see my first Farm Animals cake here… I made matching cake pops for that one! You can also scroll through all of my farm/barn themed cakes here (just click “older posts” at the bottom to keep going)!
I took tons of pics of this cake… including a picture of the back of the cake (I always forget to take those!). And the side…
Here are some close-up pics of the animals on the second tier… a cow, pig, horse, and sheep:
There was also the tractor on the front – Hugh asked for it to be green =)
But just as important as the tractor… he really wanted ducks on the cake:
Just like the first cake I did, I had a red barn on the top tier of the cake… complete with a horse, chicken, and clouds in the sky around it!
One of the hardest parts of doing this cake was the banner with the “Happy Birthday Hugh” message. You’d think it wouldn’t be so hard, but those block font tappit cutters are not easy to work with!
However, since doing this cake (back in January), I’ve learned a trick that makes the tappit work easier.
Here’s my tip: roll your fondant or gum paste super thin… I mean almost paper thin. Go ahead and cut it into strips (I use my ribbon cutter) so that the width of the ribbons are the same height as the letters you’re cutting. Then let those strips dry for at least 30 minutes. Then start your cutting and it should go easier!
And that’s all I’ve got for you today! What do you think? Have you done a farm themed cake or do you have a farm theme party planned? I’d love to hear about it… leave me a comment!
