Let me start by telling you that this Farm Themed Cake with a Tractor Cake Topper was inspired by a design from Cake Fiction.
My customer sent me the image and asked that I make a cake like it! I changed up a few details, but overall the design was already really great!
My tractor and trailer were not identical to the original cake, but I loved the way it turned out! I used my extruder to add some hay to the trailer (instead of corn).
This cake had 8" and 10" round tiers. I started by covering both tiers in light blue homemade marshmallow fondant. Then I cut wide curvy bands of green fondant for the hills in the background. I also covered the board in green marshmallow fondant and used a ribbon to cover the edges.
For the flowers on the cake, I used the small flower punches from the Wilton Gum Paste flowers set. I used a wood grain mat to give texture to the tree and added little apples to have more red on the cake in addition to the tractor. The pig was cut with an oval cookie cutter (for the body) and round/oval cutters for the face. I used an Xacto knife to hand cut the legs and ears. The eyes were drawn on with a food marker.
The cow was made similarly to the pig... but I used the flower cutter again for the brown spots!
The clouds were cut with a smooshed flower cookie cutter, then I cut a straight edge to make the "bottom" of the clouds.
This cake was vanilla cake on the bottom and white almond sour cream cake on the top tier. It was filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream before I decorated it with homemade marshmallow fondant, Satin Ice Red Vanilla fondant (for the tractor and apples) and Satin Ice brown fondant (for the trees).
