Yesterday was my only daughter's 9th birthday. For her birthday supper, she requested Chicken Tenders, Irio, and Strawberry shortcake for dessert. Then she asked if a friend could come over today after church...
So today, we're going to go to church, then spend time with family and friends, eat something simple off the grill (maybe hot dogs), and just relax. We may watch We Bought a Zoo. Or we may all play games... like Blokus or Pit.
Anyway, all that to say, I wanted to share a cake today, but I needed the post to be short.... so I'm sharing this giraffe cake. It's not my daughter's cake (if you were wondering)... it was for a teenage girl who loves giraffes and the color purple.
I honestly thought it might be a odd combo - but I was wrong... it turned out super cute, I think! I did this cake the same weekend as some of those zebra stripes cakes I shared. It was a "wild" weekend. Ha.
Get it? Zebras and Giraffes? Wild animals? Get it? Okay... yes. I'll keep my day job.
Anyway, this cake was a vanilla cake with pale yellow vanilla buttercream. Then I used Satin Ice Dark/Chocolate fondant (mixed with some marshmallow fondant) for the giraffe print (I free-hand cut the print with a pizza wheel and Xacto knife). For the purple balls and bow, I used marshmallow fondant with Regal Purple gel color and some Tylose mixed in.
I didn't do this exact tutorial, but you can see a general idea of how I make fondant bows here (you'll just need alot more loops!). And that's it!
OH - and I used number cutters from the Wilton 101 Cookie cutters set for the "14".
And that's it... really this time! Happy Sunday =)
Did I miss any details? Do you have any questions about this cake? Please leave them in the comments!
