Happy 4th of July!! I hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing day with family and friends – I know I am (or will be this evening!).
I don’t have a 4th of July cake (per se) but I did this sheet cake yesterday for one of my hubby’s coworkers. He (the coworker) was having a big family get-together today and three family members were celebrating birthdays, so he asked me to do a cake for them!
He requested vanilla cake with cream cheese buttercream, and he wanted “Happy Birthday Betty, Chuck & Larry” on the cake… but otherwise wasn’t specific at all about the colors or design.
I thought about it and decided that since it was a lady and two men, I needed to go with gender-neutral colors… and then it hit me… red, white and blue for the 4th of July. That’s how this Patriotic Birthday sheet cake was born.
And no, I couldn’t think of anything else to call it! Ha!
This was an 11×15 sheet cake. I used a 1M tip to do the border and the Wilton Silicone Numbers & Letters Mold Set to do the lettering. I have several different miniature star cutters that i used to do the stars!
PS – don’t forget to check out the Craftsy classes on sale up to 50% off until Friday!!
So… that’s it! I hope you’re all enjoying a wonderful holiday! If you have any questions or thoughts about this cake, please leave me a comment!
Perfection! The smooth top and sides of this cake just make me swoon! I LOVE that! I am a perfectionist when I am making and decorating cakes, Rose, and this cake just speaks to me. I realize in your cake portfolio, this type of cake is about as difficult as tying your shoelaces for you to do. It’s not complicated or particularly fancy and intricate or some really detailed shape, but it’s neat, clean, symmetrical, all the border shells are uniform, smooth as fondant, and the list goes on. Well done!!!
Love it,
Kim
