Zane is a huge soccer fan... in particular he loves David Beckham and the LA Galaxy team.
For his 13th birthday, his mom requested a cake to reflect those passions!
I made this 9"x13" vanilla cake and covered it in green marshmallow fondant. Then I cut out a jersey and used Ateco letter cutters for the words on the cake and the board and numbers from the Wilton 101 cutters set for his jersey.
I used a mini ball pan for the soccer ball and I hand cut the LA Galaxy logo. I used the grass tip for all the borders!
This was a fun cake - great idea for any sports lover!

This is a beautiful cake, and I must say all of your cakes are so beautiful and professional looking. You can really tell you love what you do and you are so good at it. I get so excited when I see in my e-mail another beautiful cake decorated by you and I'm so glad I found your blog. But I'm wondering how did you get all the icing so smooth looking? I would love to know how to frost a cake and make it look so professional looking like you do. Do you have a tutorial on how to frost cakes that I can see how to do this step-by-step with photos? My cakes don't look as professional as yours do.

Most of my cakes are covered in fondant which makes them naturally look very smooth. Here are some tutorials on how I do that:

Hi, I'm going to (try) to make this cake for my brothers birthday, He LOVES La Galaxy and David too!
And I was wondering how you made the dark blue and golden yellow? and did you free from the shirt and logo? or do you have a template?
Thanks!!!
- Bethany

I used Americolor Navy Blue gel coloring and I think I added some black to darken it up more. I also used Americolor Golden Yellow. I free-handed the shirt and I actually found the logo image online, enlarged it, printed it and sort of traced it!
