It's been a long, long week. We had Vacation Bible School at church Thursday & Friday night, plus most of today, plus I taught a cupcake class on Wednesday, plus I had several cake orders this weekend.
It all came to a peak last night/this morning when I stayed up until 5am to finish the last of the cakes (I had to finish it so I could be at the church most of today).
All in all, I baked 16 total layers of cake for 4 finished cakes....plus nearly 150 cupcakes. I used more than 15 pounds of fondant and more than 50 cups of buttercream. Needless to say... I dealt with alot of cake this week!
Anyway, I just got home from delivering the last of the cakes: a Playstation 3 groom's cake and a huge Hot Pink & Black Wedding cake, but I thought I'd share one of the birthday cakes I made for this weekend (I'll share the others throughout the week).
This first one was a huge Lego's Cake.
The cake itself was 14 inches long (on the bottom), 8 inches across and each tier was more than 4 inches tall. I baked all of the cake in this Alphabet Cake Pan (which was the perfect size!). For the letters, I used these Plastic Alphabet Cookie cutters for his name and these small Wilton Alphabet cutters for the "Happy Birthday".
I cut out the "bumps" for the Lego's using really think fondant and round cookie cutters (the link goes to my favorite set!).
This was my first time to cover the actual cake board in fondant, but it turned out pretty good! It's definitely something I'd like to practice doing more often! The inside of this cake was chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream!
Did I miss anything? Any questions about this cake? Please leave them in the comments and I’m happy to answer & help!
