So, I've seen these off balance cakes all over the place, but it's not something I had ever tried.
So, when I was asked to do a Monster Truck cake, I found inspiration from a cake online, but it was "wonky" or "topsy-turvy" as they're sometimes called.
I knew I could skip the hard part and just make it a "regular" cake with a similar design, but thanks to my husband's encouragement to always challenge myself, I decided to go for it and do the wonky version.
While I definitely learned things that I'd do differently next time, I think it turned out really well. I sure hope little Maddux likes his Monster Truck birthday cake!
If you're interested, the top tier is dark chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and the bottom layer is vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. It's covered in homemade marshmallow fondant, decorated with fondant and gum paste.
The "dirt" is a made-up recipe composed of dark chocolate icing and crushed Oreos! The name is made from rolled out marshmallow fondant - shaped into letters!
Did I miss any details? Do you have any questions about this? Please leave them in the comments!

I'm attempting this cake today... lol What are your cake sizes here?

Whew... you're asking me to dig deep. This is one of my very early cakes from back in 2011. I think I used 6" and 8" pans for the top and maybe a 9" and 10" bottom and carved them to the wonky shape.
