Since the Super Bowl was yesterday, at the very least, I’m a day late posting this New Orleans Saints Fleur de Lis Cupcakes Display.
But honestly, I more like weeks late considering the Saints were out of the running for the big game several weeks ago! Sorry Saints fans. By the way… yes, I watch and enjoy football. Lots!
Anywho… this mini cupcake display was made for a big Saints game/party in honor of a young lady who is to be a Mardi Gras Duchess. It was the food centerpiece of the event!
So, her mom asked that I do something big – she wanted to make a statement, but the duchess loves cupcakes so she wanted it to somehow be made of cupcakes. She had the idea of making lots and lots of mini cupcakes and displaying them as a Fleur de Lis.
To represent the saints, we used black and gold, along with the Fleur de Lis shape to make this display.
First up, I covered a 3’x3′ board with black plastic tablecloth (the kind you get at the dollar store for a buck!), then after laying out the empty black and gold cupcake liners in the Fleur de Lis shape, I glued them onto the board.
Then I baked 130+ mini cupcakes and once they were cooled and frosted, I dropped them into the pre-placed liners. This helped to hold the shape and keep the cupcakes in place when delivering it!
After that, I sprinkled on all the black and gold sugar. It wasn’t as noticeable in the big pictures, but it was a really pretty effect!
All of the cupcakes on the border of the Fleur de Lis were chocolate cake baked in gold mini cupcake liners and they had black sugar on them. All the cupcakes in the middle of the Fleur de Lis were in black mini cupcake liners and they had gold sugar.
These cupcakes were all topped with yummy vanilla buttercream.
Do you have any questions about these cupcakes? Please leave them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer and help out!
