Over the past couple of years, I’ve done lots of owl cakes (you can browse through them here)… but this is the first time I’ve done an Owl Cake for Twins 1st Birthday.
Even better, the customer drew me a picture of what she wanted, so it was truly a custom cake from her imagination!
She used pink, green and blue plates with white polka dots for her party – so she wanted to use polka dots in the design. (I wanted a picture of the plates she used, but couldn’t find one.. that picture of hanging fan decorations was the only thing I could find with all three colors together!)
She also wanted the owl, of course! Just a small one on the front, but so cute!
And the pink bow for the side… love it!
We talked about a few options for the number on top, but she settled on a polka dot version to tie together the design from the bottom of the cake to the top.
Since this cake was for her twin girls, she added two smash cakes to the order! They were done entirely with buttercream decorations!
The cake was vanilla cake and chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling and frosting and all the decorations were homemade marshmallow fondant. I added Tylose to the fondant for the bow so it would stiffen up and hold it’s shape!
