I had the best time working on this Pink & Green Tutu Baby Shower Cake with Butterflies and Pink Converse Shoes.
Baby Sophie’s Mom had very specific ideas about how she wanted here baby shower cake to look and I love making a dream come true! When I met with her and her cousin, she showed me her ideas and sketches and I knew right away the cake was going to be adorable!
I can’t remember if the cake was initially inspired by the tutu or the tiny pink Converse shoes (or maybe neither?), but she got both of them to me ahead of time so that I could match the colors and work the cake design around them.
Although I have made tiny Converse shoes from gum paste for another baby shower cake, and I offered to make them for this cake, Mom really wanted to use the ones she had bought for little Sophie and I was happy to do that too! I think they look adorable as a cake topper!!
She really wanted little butterflies on the cake and she wanted them to have a little sparkle to them!
I also use the white pearl dust on the pearl border that was made with a silicone pearl mold by First Impressions. The pearl dust doesn’t give a full-on glitter effect, but it gives them a really pretty shimmer!
Sophie Emmaleigh’s name was cut with the Funky Alphabet Tappit Cutters. After I cut them out and let the letters dry for half an hour or so, I laid them on the green fondant and traced around them/cut them out with an Xacto knife to put the backing on them.
This cake all white cake, with cream cheese filling and frosting on the bottom tier and Oreo Cookie filling and frosting on the top tier. It is covered and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant.
Did I miss any details? Do you have any questions about this cake? Please leave them in the comments!
