Some days are hard. Especially days where I’ve had to pack in the homeschooling and then I immediately have to start the cake work. I get cranky and stressed, and it rubs off on the kids and they get cranky and stressed.
Before I know it… we have full-blown battles going on. Enter… Pizza for Peace.
For example, just this past Friday we had schoolwork to finish up for the week and thanks to an electricity outage, I was behind on cake work. The kids were bickering because they were ready to be done with school and my nerves were stretched thin.
I mean seriously… why did the power company have to choose a Friday afternoon on graduation weekend in our small town to announced a “scheduled” outage? I still needed to make buttercream for 200 cupcakes for graduation parties and decorate a graduation cake. Jeez.
Simplify to make things easier…
It was at that point that I decided I needed to change up some of our plans and simply as much as possible. When the power came back on, I had to get to work double-time to finish all of my cake work and I knew by the time I was finished, I wouldn’t have time to plan and cook a full-blown meal.
Instead, I pulled out a stack of Red Baron pizzas and asked the kids to help get a hot meal ready for us.
Having the kids help cook them not only gave them something to do, but we all love Red Baron pizzas (and quite the variety as you can see) and they got excited about a meal instead of continuing to argue with one another.
Bonus… when our family can sit down and share a meal amid the craziness, it seems to bring some peace and quiet to our frazzled house. I love those smiles!! 🙂
When it was all said and done, I was grateful to have all of my work done, supper cooked and eaten, and happy kids 🙂 Like I said before, Pizza for Peace.
