So, to go along with that Hot Pink & Black Wedding Cake, the couple wanted a Playstation 3 Groom’s cake. Having never done anything like that before, I was a little intimidated, but I (usually) love a challenge, so I jumped right in.
Ya’ll know I make almost all of my fondant homemade, but it’s SO hard to get fondant black and after ordering a small tub of this and discovering that it tastes wonderful, I’ll probably be buying all of my black fondant from now on!
Anyway, for the controller, I made a small batch of Rice Krispie Treats, then hand-molded them into the controller shape. After it hardened a bit, I poured 2 layers of chocolate ganache over the controller (I let the first one set before doing a second layer) to give it a smooth finish, then I also covered and decorated it with Satin Ice Black Vanilla Fondant.
For the cake board, I used a sheet of plywood and a layer of foam board over it. Then I covered the entire thing with marbled fondant. I just kneaded some brown gel coloring into white fondant , but I didn’t knead it all the way through. When I rolled it out…wha-la! – it looked like what you see!
The silver details were gray fondant and after I “glued” them to the cake I painted them with Edible Silver Gel. Considering I’m usually very hard on myself and always wish cakes looked different or better when I’m done, I loved how this caked turned out!
