Ever since I saw this blog post about quilling on cake, I've been wanting to try it out! This week I got my chance! A dear family friend called and asked me to make a cake for her daughter's birthday.
While Mrs. Nell did have a special request that I make the cake a layer of strawberry and a layer of vanilla (like the cake I made for her mother's birthday), she didn't have any design ideas in mind. She just wanted a sheet cake with "Happy Birthday Melinda".
I saw my opportunity to try out quilling. I chose shades of purple because I rarely get to use purple and it's a favorite of mine. This technique wasn't nearly as hard as I imagined and I think the effect is wonderful! I used my FMM Multi Ribbon Cutter to make the ¼" strips of fondant and then I just rolled and shaped them. I hope to do more of this in the future!! The possibilities are endless!!
Do you have any questions about this cake? Please feel free to leave a comment and I’ll help if I can!

I've been wanting to try quilling since I saw that blog post, too! I'm sure I'll have my chance eventually. 🙂
