I’m popping in tonight to share a tutorial for a Quick & Easy DIY Cake Stand. This tutorial is one example with endless possibilities. And the best part it, you can make this cake stand for under $5! If you live near a dollar store and already have some glue, you could probably make it for $2!
Ya’ll know I have a huge cake stand collection these days, but I didn’t always have the budget to collect them. When I came across this idea for creating a pretty stand on a shoestring budget, I knew I had to share.
This is ideal for saving some money on cake stands or maybe you want several for a display. You only need 3 things to make this stand and you could easily stop by a dollar store and find a good variety of vases. Choose some different sizes, shapes and/or colors, and you could make several cake stands for pennies on the dollar.
This type of cake stand is beautiful all by itself or group several together for a dessert table display! Updated: A reader commented below that this is a great idea for sharing a cake with a new neighbor or taking a cake to a friend where you don’t have to stress over getting your stand back. If it’s not returned… no big deal! Love that!!
Quick & Easy DIY Cake Stand
Here’s what you’ll need:
- E6000 Glue
- Small Round Pizza Pan
- Wide Mouth Vase
Now let’s get started!! Begin by puting a fair amount of glue all around the bottom of the vase:
Next, place the top of your pizza pan facing down on the of the glue (so the rim of the pan is down). You will have a few seconds to reposition the pan to make sure it’s centered.
I don’t know about you, but I detest cake stands with a “rim” sticking up on the edges. I like them completely smooth so it’s easy to slide cakes on and off the stand without having to fight an edge sticking up. Right?!
Anyway, when you have it in place, set something heavy on the top (like a board or a heavy book) and in the middle of the pan and leave sit overnight:
Note: The hollow portion of the vase allows for fun décor and colors to be swapped in and out for various occasions. Further, you can paint the top portion of the stand if desired or leave it silver, however you prefer.
And that’s it! So easy, right? If you have any questions, leave me a comment!
