I know I've shown you some cutie-pie Barnyard cupcakes before, but this time when I made them, I got to also make a Pig Smash Cake. I was soooo happy with the way it turned out!
And I got better pictures this time! They still aren't perfect, but I'm learning! The smash cake was vanilla cake filled and frosted with matching pink vanilla buttercream, then covered in pretty pink marshmallow fondant!
The cupcake faces were cut out with the Ateco round cutters and Wilton oval cutters. I used Ateco markers to make the nose and eyes!
Oh, and of course, mini marshmallows on the sheep!
Do you have any questions about these cupcakes? Please feel free to leave a comment and I’ll help if I can!

These are awesome! I think you would laugh if you could hear me and the way I'm gushing over how cute these are. The sheep are my favorites. 🙂

Geez I really hope you are still maintaining this page! I really want to make your Pig Smash Cake... And I need some tips! It would be great if you could email me! Thanks in advance!
Rose
What do you need to know?
Becky
I'm just wondering if you have a tutorial on it. Is it fondant? Are there any tricks or tips you could give me? My daughter is graduating next week as a Military police officer 🙂 and I would like to make this for her (pig, get it? Hee hee), but I want to make the face camo, but the ears and nose pink....
Becky
Sorry, I just read it again, and now I remember that you said it IS fondant. I've never worked with fondant before and everyone keeps telling me it's hard to work with and doesn't taste very good... any thoughts on that?
Rose
I use homemade marshmallow fondant. I'd color the whole batch pink, then roll it out and cover the cake. I have some tutorials here:

I cut out ovals for the ears and snout and round for the eyes. You can buy premade fondant in red and black at Walmart... maybe even pink too!?

Love the adorable sheep cupcakes! How did You make the face?
Rose Atwater
Its a simple black round cutout of fondant, then I piped on the eyes and ears with black & white buttercream.

Rose - Thanks for this pig smash cake (What is a smash cake, btw? All that comes to mind is a picture of me smashing this goodness into my mouth). But, regardless, my daughter loves pigs and when this popped up on one of my google searches, this was the one she wanted. I've never worked with fondant before so this is my first time. I already made your marshmallow fondant, which was so simple to do, and tonight I'm making your vanilla cake and butter cream. Cannot wait to do this. So fun! Thanks again and I love your blog and recipes!

Smash cakes are usually cakes done for 1st birthdays - a tiny cake for the baby to "smash" - usually for a photo op.
