A couple of years ago I had this order for a Silver Lace Wedding Cake + Construction Dump Truck Groom's Cake. These cakes were not completely unique designs for me, but I was really happy with how they turned out.
I also loved looking back through the pics of me and my hubby that day... apparently we had a "date" after the cake delivery! I'll share some pics in a minute - but let's start with the wedding cake.
OH - before I tell you about the cake - look at the room! It was so gorgeous! I may be remembering it wrong, but I'm pretty sure this wedding was held at the home of a family friend and it was just gorgeous!
Okay - so the cake was 6", 10" and 14" round tiers for a total 128 servings. Sadly, I don't remember the flavor for the cake - it's one of those rare times I didn't keep good notes, but I do know it was covered and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant.
Here's a close-up of the cake before I delivered it. The lace was done with these Fat Daddio Lace Acrylic Impression Cutters. I bought probably 4-5 different ones and just mixed them up all over the top and bottom tiers.
In addition to the wedding cake, I also got to make the really fun groom's cake... also displayed in the gorgeous blue and gold room!
I did have notes for this cake! It was Italian Cream Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting (colored brown)! Unfortunately I haven't mastered the art of taking pics in front of a really bright window, but I think you can get the idea - this cake was not all that complicated!
The cake was 12" round and I kept the outside finish very rough and rustic to look like mud! We used a toy dump truck and then lots of different chocolate candy being "dumped" out. Isn't that fun?
When we left home, it was raining horribly and I was so nervous... but thank goodness it cleared up by the time we got to the location (45 miles away). After delivering the cake, the hubby and I had a date 🙂 I remember that day like it was yesterday. I had not yet been diagnosed with my heart issues and I remember I didn't feel all that great and had no idea what was wrong.
But I didn't let that take away from our evening... we walked along the river, then sat on a bench and talked while we watched the sunset. OH and then we enjoyed some great BBQ for supper! We still have dates like this as often as we can... I'm so blessed.
Okie-dokie - it's late and I'm tired. Let me know if you have any questions about these cakes!
Here are some other Lace Cakes I've done...
And I think this might have been my first lace cake (inspired by Martha Stewart) and it was the first cake I shared here on Rose Bakes!
