Today I want to share this Silver Sequins Square Wedding Cake with you! I made this a couple of weekends ago and I just couldn’t wait to share!
I absolutely adore square wedding cakes – and since they’re pretty rare, I get SO excited when I’m asked to do one! Plus, this cake just radiated elegance and simplicity and well, the design was just really, really pretty and I loved doing it!
Can I say that about a cake that I made? I hope so. I just did! Anyway -this cake was small (for a wedding cake) and that just made it that more more appealing to me… it was only 4″, 6″ and 8″ square tiers. I baked them in my set of Fat Daddio Square pans (that’s a flashback in history) and gosh, I still love those pans!
In addition to it’s size and the fact that it was square, I was SO excited that the bride requested a glittery silver middle tier.
After talking over several options, we decided to do this sequined effect. I took pictures to share the steps with you for how to make it (eventually), but your best option would be to snag the Cakes in Full Bloom Craftsy Class where I learned the technique!
I will give you a few hints though… I glued edible confetti onto the cake with piping gel, then used Wilton Color Mist to make it all silver! There are a few more details than that… but those are the main components!

One last thing… the 6″ tier on this cake was a dummy cake. The bride was having a very small intimate wedding so she didn’t need lots of cake, but she still wanted it to be a 3-tiered wedding cake, so this was the best option.
If you’re wondering… don’t let the dummy tier deter you from using the sequined effect – it also works beautifully on real cake…. as I did it on this Pool Party Cake (except they were pink sequins!).
Anyway – so that’s that! The top and bottom tiers were vanilla cake filled with white chocolate buttercream frosting. The fondant was homemade marshmallow fondant. I used my usual method of stacking cakes – except I didn’t use any bubble tea straws in the dummy tier. That was kind of nice – being able to skip that!
