I’ve mentioned several times over the years that we are big football fans around here so when I was offered the opportunity to build a Snack Food Stadium, I could not turn it down! And I have to tell you – it turned into a family affair with the hubby and the kids helping!
Okay, okay… the kids weren’t really all that helpful, but their enthusiasm was fun either way 😉 That’s what counts, right? We were hanging out together, building something and playing with our food. That’s what I call quality family time 😉
To build my stadium, I stocked up on all the snack foods… SNICKERS®, Skittles®, Pepsi™, Diet Pepsi™, TOSTITOS® Scoops, TOSTITOS® Chunky Salsa, and more – plus some supplies to “build” with! I found most everything I needed at Walmart:
Now let’s do it! First, I covered two small tables with green disposable table clothes – then added a black bar across one side (for the parking lot). (Of course I didn’t take a good pic of my very first step… but you’ll see in a minute!
For holding all the snack foods, I purchased disposable mini loaf pans in 2 sizes… 12 Medium (8 inch by 2.5 inch by 2.5 inch) and 12 Small (6 inch by 2.5 inch by 2 inch). I also used tape, scissors, and a scalpel.
In addition to the snacks listed above, I also included some fun baked goods (football cupcakes, of course) , dipped pretzel rods, snack crackers, cheese sticks and other MARS & Wrigley candies!
To begin, I used a flexible cutting mat as a placeholder for where I would eventually place my big pan of dip (ie., the field). Then I surrounded it with the medium loaf pans. For one set, I taped them together (bottom to top) and the other set, I cut the centers out so I could “stand up” some “taller” snack foods! Let me show you:
And these are the ones I cut the bottoms out of and taped together:
I did the same thing for the end zones… except I didn’t cut any bottoms out and I used all small loaf pans (they just fit better!)
Next up… the back row of stadium seats. To get them taller, I used 12 oz. canned Pepsi™ for the wall!
Then I used doubled 0ver tape on top of the Pepsi™ cans to stick on more disposable loaf pans to hold more snacks!!
After getting tape all the way around the cans, I added more loaf pans on the tops and a couple of bowls for the TOSTITOS® Chunky Salsa to round out my design. Again, medium pans on the sides and small pans on the end! And now I’m here:
That’s looking like a Snack Foods Stadium, huh? Now it’s time to fill up the stadium with people (ahem, snacks like SNICKERS® and Skittles®) and…
And a little more. Okay, it’s still not full yet, but I’ve still got a few more things to add to make it really shine!
On the end of the table where I added the black table cloth, I also added a piece of black foam board (cut down to fit the space I had) and white electrical tape to mark out parking spaces.
Because a Snack Food Stadium must have parking, right? And what’s better for cars than SNICKERS® FUN SIZE® Candy Bars?!
Okay – now it’s time to wrap this up and finish adding all the final touches! I added the salsa to the bowls…
I made a banner for the backdrop (cut up some old colored file folders)…
I added a layered dip (specifically Shrimp Dip) “field” ( the dip is also made with TOSTITOS® Chunky Salsa) and an end zone with a goal post…
…complete with olive “players”! Haha! That was my one of my kids ideas – they had so much fun making this with me! OH and my husband laid out all the players “just so” in a passing formation.
I wouldn’t let him put all 22 olives on the dip like he wanted to represent the correct number of players… it’s not that serious, honey. 🙂 After some convincing that it would be okay with a few less “players”, we were done:
A Snack Food Stadium ready for the Big Game – with plenty of snacks to keep your family and friends fed for all 4 quarters! Happy GAME DAY!! Enjoy the football and the food!
