If you hang around here at Rose Bakes much, you know I rarely do sheet cakes and even more rarely do I do these types of sheet cakes where the characters are drawn out and filled in by piping stars, such as this Spongebob Sheet Cake.
But…. there’s always a but… sometimes I do. And this is one of them. I feel like I’m just not good at cakes like this, and so I struggle with always feeling like my buttercream cakes are not good enough. When it comes to cake decorating, fondant is my thing and buttercream often makes me crazy!
Oh, and it makes my hand cramp. Like, seriously, OUCH!
However, when a client orders one, and then another and then another, I have to believe I’m doing something right, or at the very least, I’m making clients happy and that’s what counts! Right? Right…
Okay, so I didn’t really count, but it sure felt like that many!
OH, and I deliberately left the background “rough” hoping it would look like rippling water (since Spongebob lives in the water – doh!), but I’m not sure it had the effect I wanted.
And… for the writing. The thing I’m absolutely worst at with buttercream is writing. It’s a nightmare for me. But I managed to get all the letters (mostly) straight and the same size, so I didn’t completely hate it. Next time I’ll get out the Tappits and call it a day!
That’s really all I can tell you about this one. It was pretty easy – if you don’t stress out and worry like I do about buttercream. In my case, it was more stressful than a 4 tiered wedding cake.
