Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice Baby Shower Cake for Twin Girls

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice Goodies

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice Baby Shower Cake for Twin Girls. Now that’s a mouthful huh?

And this cake was a handful of work… but it was truly worth it when it all came together! Nikki was having twin baby girls and she wanted everything baby and “sugar & spice” that we could get onto the cake! I also did many of the decorations in pairs… one for each girl!

I couldn’t begin to tell you about all the details on this cake, but I’m going to show you lots of pictures and if you have questions – please leave a comment!

There were baby pins, buttons, rattles, lots of candy and sweets, cinnamon rolls (for spice!), chocolate, ruffled flowers….

The cake was 6″ strawberry cake, 9″ round dark chocolate cake, and 12″ round white almond sour cream cake. Except for the brown (it was Satin Ice), all decorations were made from homemade marshmallow fondant and gum paste.

Here are some of the “sugar” and “spice” items up close…

First a fondant baby rattle (there were two of them since the cake was for twin baby girls!

Little fondant cupcakes…

And one of my favorite things… fondant cinnamon rolls!

The lettering on the cake was done with my funky alphabet cutters and I used my silicone pearl molds for the borders.

To display the cake, Nikki had me set it up on a big round silver cake stand surrounded with huge pink tutu… it was just so stinkin’ cute!

Oh, I almost forgot… the baby carriage topper!! She asked that I include 2 baby girls sleeping in the carriage…

I used a tutorial I found here to make this carriage! I used this silicone baby  mold to make the sweet little babies!

And of course… the twin baby girls:

There were some other goodies I made for this baby shower as well… there were ice cream cone cake pops – two kind!

Don’t you just love my faded purple nail polish? I almost never wear fingernail polish and then when I do, I never slow down enough to take it off even when it looks horrible!

And then there were candy apples…

I  made pink and purple ones (as you can see in the very top picture) but for some reason, I didn’t’ get any close-ups of the pink ones… just the lavender/purple ones. Oh well.. ya’ll know you can see all of the candy apples I’ve made (in lots of colors!!) here.

And that’s all I’ve got for you!! As if that’s not enough, huh? hehe!

If you have any questions about the cake or any of the cake decorations or any of these other goodies… just leave a comment!

  3. Hi, Rose….Have you ever added fondant lettering to a buttercream cake? I want to add a name on the front side of a buttercream birthday cake. I was thinking it would be doable if I added some Tylose to the fondant. What do you think? Should I also make a fondant name plate on which to put the letters of the name or just put the letters on the cake alone?

    Thanks for your help!

  4. Hi, this cake would be perfect for my upcoming “sugar and spice and all things nice” baby shower! 🙂

  8. The cake is so beautiful! Did you mix the MMF and gumpaste together, or are some just MMF and some gum paste. This might be a silly question but did you put the cake together then deliver it or did you put it in the fridge in between?

    1. Thanks Raquel!! They were all mixed up. Any of the standing decorations were either all gum paste or a mixture of gum paste and fondant. Some of the smaller and/or flat decorations were all fondant.

    1. If you’re local to me (I’m in Meadville, MS), you can email me at rose(at)rosebakes(dot)com. If you’re not local, I’m unable to do it for you. I cannot ship or deliver cakes outside my local area.
