Back in February my husband was working an outage 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, about 90 miles from home - which meant I only saw him on for a few hours each week. During that time, I made this Tiara and Bows Princess Cake.... and completely forgot that I had done it.
A few weeks ago I lost my computer hard drive again (mentioned here) and since then, Carbonite has been slowly but surely restoring everything. As they're put back on my laptop, I've been going through them and I'm surprised how many cakes I had totally forgotten that I made ... even within the last few months - especially during that stressful time.
So, let me tell you about this cake! It was 6" and 10" round tiers (baked in Magic Line pans). The cake was white almond sour cream (aka wedding cake) with vanilla buttercream.
My customer asked that it be shades of pink and purple... very girly and princess-y... so of course it had to have a tiara. She also sent me a pic of her invitation to use as inspriation...
Since the tiara on the invite had hearts, I wanted to change things up from the usual tiara I make and make it the same... with hearts. You can see how I make gum paste tiaras here except I used a different template this time.
This one was made with lavender gum paste and then I painted it with some silver luster dust.
I used the wavy wheel of my FMM Multi Ribbon Cutter to cut all the ribbon borders, ribbons on the top tier, and strips to make the bows. You can see how I make ribbon borders here and one day I'll get a tutorial up for the bow.
I used a quilting texture mat to do the texture on the bottom tier, then used royal icing to glue the hot pink sugar pearls on.
I also used royal icing to attach the tiara to the top of the cake. For the colors I used Americolor Light Pink and Violet.... using different amounts for the different shades.
Except for using gum paste on the tiara, the cake was covered and decorated entirely with homemade marshmallow fondant. I added some tylose to the fondant for the bows.
And that's it! Do you have any questions about this cake? Please leave me a comment or question and I'll help if I can!

Wow, that was a lot of time away and long hours for your husband! Glad that's over! Cute cake! I don't see how you even managed one cake and all your kids and homeschooling while he was away let alone the number I'm sure you did!
