Today’s cake is a Baby Shower Cake inspired by my Pink Owl Cake with Lollipops cake and the Whoo Loves You Baby Shower theme. I combined the look of my original cake with a few elements from the party decor to get this adorable little cake.
Now, onto the details…
The sweet little owl was made with rice cereal treats. I molded the owl by pressing the treats tightly into a bowl (and letting it harden), then coated them with white chocolate (to smooth the surface), then covered in fondant. If anybody is interested in a tutorial on this, let me know and I’ll do one!
For the top tier, I covered it in the Argyle pattern by cutting out diamonds then drawing the stitching on with an Americolor Food Marker.
Then for the name, Maggie Rose (isn’t that a pretty name?), I used these Wilton Fondant Alphabet & Number Cutters. I have to tell you, these are not my favorite cutters, but I do use them from time to time and I think they worked perfectly on this cake!
I made the lollipops out of marshmallow fondant with some Tylose added in (see the bow tutorial for details) and let them dry ahead of time. Then I pushed a lollipop stick into them and glued them to the cake with sugar glue.
And since I have this one friend who always wants to see the back of the cakes…. here’s a picture of the back.
The top tier of this cake is Butter Cake with Strawberry Cream Cheese filling. The bottom tier is White Almond Sour Cream Cake with Cream Cheese filling. Both tiers are covered with Cream Cheese Buttercream, then decorated with Marshmallow Fondant.
