My best friend Kathy lives in Italy (I shared that before in my 101 Things Post) and yesterday I got a box in the mail from her!! Just for fun, I thought I’d share some of the goodies she sent to us!!
As you can see from the picture above, she sent chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. Now that is the definition of a best friend, don’t you think?
And as far as best friends go – Kathy rocks!! (Certainly not only because of chocolate – but that will be the focus of today’s post!)
This candy is so delicious… so rich and yummy and crunchy and creamy…. and just perfect.
On the outside is delicious silky dark chocolate. On the inside is a whole hazelnut and rich milk chocolate and ground hazelnuts in a truffle like texture.
Oh, and every chocolate is wrapped with a note – written in multiple languages….
Do you see what it says? “You can be yourself in the company of a true friend.” How true that is – and it’s perfect for this post about Kathy!
Anyway, if you’ve never had Baci, please try it if you have the chance. Unless you don’t like nuts (gasp) or chocolate (bigger GASP!!)… then you can ignore this suggestion.
I never confessed to Kathy that I might have bought
eight a few bags of it on my girls weekend with Shelly… just to have it hidden away for rainy days. There was a TJ Maxx there and it’s more than two hours from me… and when I saw it, I got so excited and grabbed every bag on the shelf …
Okay, so I might have gone a bit overboard – but can a girl really have too much chocolate? I think not. And yes, I do hide it.
Anyway, I’m off track here. Back to my box from Kathy.
There were Lindt Lindor chocolates. I don’t know if this particular flavor/variety is available here in the states, but it’s delicious!! It’s just so creamy and smooth…. I can’t even explain it! I had one or two as my bedtime snack last night.
Then there were the Kinder Eggs – for my kids. I say “were” because they’re all eaten now – but check out what’s inside them…
And even an airplane in one of them… my son just had to assemble it:
Isn’t that awesome?? My kids really had fun opening them and seeing what each other got and then playing with them! There was even an extra that I let hubby open (I forgot to take pics). It had a really cool (tiny) drawing toy in it (like a miniature Spirograph – remember those?)!
Then there were chocolate bars….
Now I can’t read Italian… and I haven’t tasted everything yet (that top package got damaged a little in shipment and it was already opened like that but it has individually wrapped bars), but these appear to be chocolate bars with hazelnuts and caramel and a cookie…and maybe some other crunch in the top one.
With a quick search, it seems you can also get these on Amazon, if you want to give them a try! I can’t wait to taste them myself!! There are the Ferrero Duplo and the Milka Caramello e Nocciole Intere. Mmmmm… my mouth is watering.
And lastly…these are the things that made me cry.
Kathy asked if there was anything specific I wanted from Italy… and I told her anything that reminded me of her. She sent this plaque.
It’s gorgeous and all the tiny details are fun and amazing. My kids sat and tried to read all the cities and talked about all the pictures. I just sat and cried because I love her so much!
As a side note – after seeing them enjoy all the tiny details about Italy, I had an idea (hold the phone!). In our homeschool curriculum we study different nations from every continent every two weeks and we’ve already covered Europe, but I want to add an extra week (or substitute one week) and study Italy since we’ll have some first hand knowledge from Kathy and her family. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before!?!?!
Last… there was this…
This espresso cup is most precious to me because it came in a set of two. And Kathy has the other one. I don’t even drink coffee, but Kathy sips on it daily and having the matching cup…. well, it makes me tear up. Some of you may think it’s corny – but I’m a sentimental girl and well…. this cup just means the world to me!
Okay – now that I’m all teary and mushy… I think I’ll wrap this up and go eat some chocolate.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!
