Ya’ll know buttercream is my arch enemy, but more and more I find myself doing buttercream cakes that I love. This Woodland Animals Camping Birthday Cake is a perfect example.
When Megan sent me a link to this Woodland Camping Party and told me how she wanted the cake to look, I got really excited! I really love doing the rustic buttercream and knew it would be perfect for the woodsy-camping theme.
She also asked that I do the fondant deer and fox as toppers… those were the two animals that were to be the focus of her party decor! I found several online that I liked and also tried to imitate the designs from the party printables at Dimple Prints.
Here’s a picture of the little deer…
and the little fox..
The banner was probably the most challenging thing for me because I have a serious handicap when it comes to craftiness. Getting the letters and numbers centered and then printing and cutting out and assembling the whole thing… that was work! 😉 I definitely need to practice on my graphic design skills!
Since she was also making cupcakes, she asked about having the top tier as his smash cake. So that’s what I did… for the bottom I made a “regular” tier with 2 layers of cake and filling, then the top tier was only a single layer of cake – easy to take off for Ridge to smash into!
I wish I could share all of the party pics with you… Megan had an adorable party table set up! But you’ll just have to be happy with this one sweet picture of Ridge with his smash cake… I love pics like this!!

Isn’t he just precious??
And that’s it! Do you have any questions about this cake?
