Description

Grilled bratwurst is a summer cookout favorite that’s juicy, flavorful, and incredibly easy to make. Finish off the grilled brats with a sweet and tangy homemade BBQ sauce and you’ve got a perfect summer meal!

Ingredients

  • 1 package Bratwurst sausages
  • 8 oz 7UP (1 cup)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp worcestershire
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

How to Make Homemade BBQ Sauce

  1. Pour the 7UP and all other ingredients into a saucepan and whisk to mix.
  2. Bring the sauce to a boil over medium heat. 
  3. Immediately reduce the heat and let it simmer gently until it thickens – approximately 15 minutes.
  4. Brush over desired meat while grilling!

How to Grill Bratwurst (How to Grill Brats)

    1. Preheat your grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grill grates with olive oil if desired.
    2. Place the bratwurst sausage directly over the heat.
    3. Grill for about 15-20 minutes, turning every few minutes with a pair of tongs.
    4. During the last several minutes of cooking, brush generously with the homemade BBQ sauce each time you flip the brats.
    5. Continue cooking until the bratwursts are evenly browned and the internal temperature reaches 160°F.

Notes

    • Don’t pierce the bratwurst before grilling or you’ll lose the delicious juices.

    • Avoid cooking over high heat for the entire cook time.

    • Turn frequently for even browning.

    • Brush with BBQ sauce near the end so it caramelizes instead of burning.

    • Let the bratwurst rest for a few minutes before serving.
