Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 9 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 sticks of butter (1/2 lb)
  • 3 Tbsp vegetable shortening (Crisco)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9×13 pan with pan release or butter and flour.
  2. In a bowl over simmering water, melt the butter, shortening, chocolate chips, and cocoa powder. Stir occasionally. Once mixture is melted and combined, cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, vanilla, and sugar together. Add the chocolate mixture and combine.
  4. In another bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Add to the chocolate mixture.
  5. At this point, you can add in nuts (1 cup) if desired.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, then turn the pan and bake an additional 15 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Be sure to not over bake.
  7. Cool completely. Makes 15 large brownies.
