WFMW: How to “Chop” an Egg in 5 Seconds {Video Tutorial}

I’m so excited to share this tip with you today! I’ve been doing this for years, but it didn’t occur to me to ever tell anybody else my little secret… until a few days ago! And if it’s not a secret – and the whole world already knows… can we just pretend it was my brilliant secret? Please? Okay.

You see… this past weekend when making my favorite Baked Potato Salad for Easter, I did what I always do… I “chopped” up about 10 hard-boiled eggs. I was over at my Mama’s house for our family get-together when I did it and both of my sister-in-laws stopped and were amazed at my method for chopped eggs! They couldn’t believe how easy it was… and both of them declared this is how they’d be chopping eggs from now on.

At that moment, it occurred to me that this would be a great tip. So here it is… my earth-shattering secret… I don’t actually “chop” them – I use an old fashioned box grater to grate my eggs.

It takes only seconds to “chop” an entire hard-boiled egg… and I promise, the eggs taste better like this! And this is a perfect technique for potato salad, tuna salad, Cobb salad and any other recipe that calls for chopped eggs!

Keep reading and down at the bottom there is a short video of me actually chopping an egg. In the video, I say it takes less than 10 seconds, but the reality is, it takes about 5 seconds to do each egg!!

Anyway… back to my original post. Here’s the video (it’s my very first ever video made to share on the internet… just keep that in mind when you see the bad lighting and shaky hands!)

  4. Rose, your recipes never disappoint. I’m so totally with you on the onions but I also enjoy sweet relish & diced celery and I like some Mrs. DASH along with my S&P…Amd while growing up Mama always sprinkled Paprika & Parsley for Garnish, she would say, so yeah, I do that, too.
    I’m pretty sure I’ll get on board with you on the ‘baking my potatoes’ next time. I like that! I use my Pampered Chef Egg Slicer/Dicer. ‍
