Sometimes you just fall in love with a cake... and I absolutely fell in love with this Rainbow Chevron Painting Party Cake. Not that there's anything really extraordinary about this cake, but I fell in love nonetheless!
The design started with the invitation:
I pulled this image from Etsy and I can't be sure it's the exact one my client used (I lost all of my files on my phone a few months back), but if it's not the exact one, it's very similar!
SO - I knew I wanted to go with the chevron and rainbows (and hot pink was specifically requested) but I also needed to tie in the painting party theme!
That's when I decided to do paint "splats" on both the hot pink top tier...
... and as a custom plaque to put Lucy's name on! I hand cut all of the splats with a scalpel, then used mini round cutters to do some of the drips of paint! I used the Funky Alphabet Tappit cutters to do her name! See how I use tappit cutters here.
For the chevron, you probably already know, but I use the Not Just Cakes by Annie Chevron Cutters. Her cutters are so popular, you have to get on her email list to be notified of new sales then you have to be fast when the sales go live because they sell out in a hurry!
To get the bright vibrant colors on this cake, I used Americolor Electric Gel Colors.
For the "7" topper, I cut the number out of the purple fondant, then I laid it on gum paste and cut out a back for it. I attached a lollipop stick with melted chocolate to the back to stand it up after it dried!
The only other details I missed... I used a ribbon cutter to add the border to the top tier and here are the nuts and bolts of the cake:
It was 6" and 9" round tiers baked in Magic Line Pans; vanilla cake filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream. All of the fondant that I used to cover it and decorate was homemade marshmallow fondant.

Hi there. I saw your bubble guppies cake and grandsons 1st bday is coming up and he would love a BG cake! I was wondering exactly what fondant set you ordered. There are a few different ones on etsy and I want to make sure I get the right one. I'm not a big cake baker but thought I could buy a cake and habe them ice it in blue fondant them just add the BG myself. Was it easy for a novice? Thanks Rose!

The ones I bought are no longer available but I'm sure if you search for fondant bubble guppies, there are probably lots of others available!
