Can you believe it’s November already? I can’t. It seems like it was summer about 5 seconds ago. Of course it doesn’t help that it’s still warm enough for my kids to be wearing shorts and flip flops. Yeah… no Fall weather around here yet.

But regardless of the weather, the holiday season is upon us and it’s time to start thinking about all the food and gifts and well… maybe even a way to combine the two!

There’s no better way to bless someone with a sweet, homemade gift than to bake it for them and and make it pretty. That’s what I was thinking about when I decided to make these Caramel Apple Pie Push Pops.

Something our church family always does around the holidays is focus on the elderly in our community – those that live alone or are confined to nursing homes. As I was thinking of ways to do something special for them this year – of course I thought about baking.

However,as much as I’d love to bake a whole pie for all of them, that would take forever and many of them could never eat a whole pie anyway … but they could eat a single serving of pie. And with that thought – an idea was born!

Marie Callender's Pies and Redi-Wip

To keep things simple and give my idea a try, I picked up a Marie Callender’s® Dutch Apple Pie and a can of Reddi-wip® at Walmart, along with a few other really basic supplies and ingredients that combined – make for a fun, pretty treat that’s sure to bring a little comfort to someone else this holiday season!

And bonus… since the pie has to be baked and cooled ahead of time (even the night before), the dessert comes together really fast so you can whip it up and deliver them to neighbors or friends in no time flat.

Okay – let’s get to it!

To make this treat, you’re going to need a Marie Callender’s® Dessert Pie – specifically a Dutch Apple Pie, a can of Reddi-wip®, some store-bought or homemade caramel sauce, and some push pop treat containers  and a stand to hold them while you work (they’re often sold together in kits. Note: you can make 10-12 push pops with a single pie).

First up – bake the pie! The great thing about this recipe is that you do this step ahead of time – several hours or even the night before – the pie will need to be cold before you put it in the push pops! So, the night before I was ready to make the push pops, I followed the package directions and baked the pie, let it cool, then stuck it in the frig overnight!

When you’re ready to make the push pops, get everything out on the counter along with a couple of spoons and you’re ready to go!

Scoop-of-Apple-Pie

To make the treats, spoon out some apple pie and layer it first in the bottom of the push pop. Dig deep and be sure to get some crust, some apple pie filling and some of the crumb topping! You want all the good stuff in every bite – the whole apple pie experience!

Then add a layer of Reddi-wip® and drizzle some caramel over that. Or do caramel first – then Reddi-wip®.,. it really doesn’t matter! Heck – you can put caramel on every layer if you want – you really can’t have too much, can you? Repeat these layers until you fill up the push pop! I repeated the layers 3 times to fill it up level with the top, then finished it off with one last drizzle of caramel:

Here’s a little tip for ya… when you get ready to drizzle the caramel sauce, warm it up in the microwave first (15-20 seconds should be plenty), then use a fork to drizzle it. Easy-peasy!

So there you go… that’s how you assemble the push pops! Once you have them assembled, go ahead and put the lids on and keep them in the frig until you’re ready to decorate and deliver. Or, if you’re ready to make them pretty now – here’s how to do that!

Ribbon-on-Caramel-Apple-Pie-Push-Pop

First, add a ribbon around the top of them! I used burlap ribbon but you could use red or green or any color that feels like apple pie 😉

Then add a cute sticker! You could print these on a big sticker sheet or on card stock, then use a 2″ round paper punch to cut them out. If you do them on card stock, use stick glue to stick them on! Since I’m thinking of giving these as Thanksgiving treats – I made a “Happy Thanksgiving” label with a cute little apple! You can download and print the labels for free here:

Once you’re done, you’ll want to deliver these treats as soon as possible and keep them refrigerated in the meantime. I’m certain whoever you share them with – whether it’s your immediate family (kids love to eat anything out of a push pop) or an elderly neighbor or friend –  I’m sure you’re going to bring a smile to their face!
