What I’ve Been Doing (two weeks ago!)

Well, I got busy last week and let my weekly update get lost in the shuffle but I’m back now and ready to share What I’ve Been Doing (2 weeks ago)!!

The very first weekend in April I only had 2 cake orders! First up, this lovely  Teal & Cream Ombre Buttercream Roses Baby Shower Cake.

Teal & Cream Ombre Baby Shower Cake

I haven’t kept in touch with many people I knew in college but there are a handful that I still keep track of and one of them is my friend Angela. Shes a sweetheart and she sometimes comments  here or messages me on Facebook about one of my posts or recipes and and it always makes my day!

Anyway – she ordered this cake for her sister’s baby shower! It was a simple cake, but I fell in love with the soft colors and I always love the ombre effect! It was a 6″ chocolate cake for the top tier and an 8″ wedding cake for the bottom tier (without almond). The frosting was vanilla buttercream 🙂  I love all roses cakes but for whatever reason (maybe the colors), this one really felt elegant and more beautiful than usual… I am still smitten with it!

Next – this cake:Western Cake with Belt, Leather, Wood

Oh gosh I loved doing this cake!! Mr. Jack – an elderly man in our church – stepped down from being a deacon after 20 years of service (because of health concerns). Our pastor’s wife asked me if I’d do a cake to honor him and there was no way I would turn down a chance to so something so special.

Mr Jack & Mrs Ellen

Mr. Jack is one of the sweetest human beings I’ve ever known – he always has a smile on his face and his love of the Lord radiates from his entire being. He’s just precious.

Anyway… he loves to be outside and he loves all things rustic and country and western. I really wanted to capture his personality so I decided to use wood, leather and a belt buckle (he’s almost never seen without one of his fancy silver belt buckles) as textures for the cake.

This cake was 5″, 7″ and 9″ tiers.. the top two were lemon and the bottom was red velvet. The frosting was all cream cheese buttercream – colored with warm brown gel coloring. I hope to share a tutorial for some of the textures later, but I will quickly share some of the tools I used to make this cake:

Okay – so that’s all I’ve got for ya. Since I doubled up and shared twice in one week, be sure to check out this post with all the other cakes I’ve done in the past 2 weeks!

Do you have any questions about these cakes? Leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to answer!

Happy Caking!

      1. Hello- I cannot seem to find the floral impression mat that looks right. Can you check the link? I’ve scanned Amazon too and can’t find a good match. Thanks a million! Love your work!
