If you’re not from the South, you may not be aware of the common practice of crawfish boils. Personally, I haven’t been to a lot of them, but they’re very common around here (in Mississippi) and even more-so in Louisiana. So today I had to translate that to cupcakes… Crawfish Boil Cupcakes with Corn & Potatoes!
The basics of a good crawfish boil (as I understand it) include a HUGE pot… throw in fresh crawfish, potatoes, corn, lots of spicy Louisiana seasonings… sometimes onions or sausage or mushrooms or lemons…. or all of the above.
When it’s all done, you spread it all out on a big table covered in Newspaper and everybody digs in.
These cupcakes were ordered for a birthday… a man’s birthday and he loves crawfish. His wife just knew he’d love them!!
To make them a little more interesting, I included potatoes on some of them…
…and corn too.
The crawfish were made from Wilton Red candy melts… and this Lobster chocolate mold. Yes… lobsters and crawfish do look alot alike (crawfish are just much smaller) and I had it on good authority from a true Louisianan that they would pass as crawfish. The potatoes and corn were made from homemade marshmallow fondant.
I am very happy with how these turned out… and it’s a good thing! I have another order for them coming up… for a Crawfish Boil Engagment Party!
Any questions about these cupcakes? Please leave them in the comments!
